About

Justin Waylon Spears of RavenCliff and Ricochet and Rob Robinson of HeavyDrunk with another questionable decision. This isn't a rhinestone impersonation act.
It’s outlaw country played by a couple of guys who know better — and decided to do it anyway.

Skid Steer Outlaw Tribute celebrates the songs, swagger, stories, and beautifully bad behavior of outlaw country — Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, David Allan Coe, Hank Williams Jr., Charlie Daniels, Johnny Paycheck, Bobby Bare, Dwight Yoakam, George Jones, and the rest of the troublemakers who made country music dangerous.

At the wheel are Justin Waylon Spears and Rob Robinson, two veteran musicians whose roads to Skid Steer run through South Texas, Mississippi, Nashville, honky-tonks, blues clubs, barbecue pits, recording studios, and more than a few questionable decisions.

South Texas native Justin Waylon Spears is a singer, songwriter, musician, and producer, former frontman of Raven Cliff and former member of country group Ricochet. His songwriting and production credits include Ricochet’s Then & Now…The Hits & More and the Scott Taylor Band’s Beautiful Sin, winner of Album of the Year at the 2014 Texas Music Awards. When he isn't making music, Justin can usually be found with Candy Jo, growing ridiculously hot peppers, making small-batch hot sauces and seasonings for Y’all Hungry?, or tending a smoker full of something that started cooking before most folks got out of bed.

Louisiana-born and Mississippi-raised, Rob Robinson, a.k.a. HeavyDrunk, spent 13 years as the owner of Puckett’s of Leiper’s Fork before returning full-force to writing, recording, and performing. He recently wrote and produced You Don’t Know Me and BluesLand Theme Park for HeavyDrunk and Watermelon Slim, touring throughout the United States and Europe. His music has earned international radio play, multiple blues No. 1s, strong reviews on both sides of the Atlantic, and a cover feature in Europe’s Blues Matters magazine.

Rob is also the author of Monkey Magnolia, a Southern Gothic fever dream involving captured scientists, stolen rockets, and the first New World monkey’s journey to become America’s first astronaut.

Together, Spears and Robinson bring those miles, scars, stories, and a healthy disrespect for polished Nashville country to Skid Steer.
