Lois Berg is a force of nature, a chronicler of life and midwife of dreams whose music meets at the corner of real authentic country music and modern art. She is an amazing story. A wild child from the get go she followed her instincts down a number of crooked paths musical and otherwise. Sometimes these paths lead her astray. She ended up in jail and homeless for eight months. She has worked hard since then and her future looks bright. She graduated from the prestigious Belmont University.
Lois Berg is a Nashville songwriter and author whose work is rooted in survival, recovery, and the stubborn courage to begin again. Her song and memoir Well Behaved Cowgirls trace her journey from jail and homelessness to graduating from Belmont University and building a life shaped by music and sobriety. Now 17 years sober, Berg writes with the perspective of someone who has lived every word she sings. Her songs carry forward a family tradition of storytelling that includes her sister, hit songwriter Matraca Berg, and her Norwegian grandmother, who first taught her to yodel on a Wisconsin dairy farm. Berg’s music is both deeply personal and universally human—stories of loss, humor, resilience, and finding your way home.
